West Midlands Police officers help save man’s life

Officers’ prompt actions have helped save a man’s life, with the ambulance service saying without their intervention the incident could have had a very different ending.

A 76-year-old man went into cardiac arrest while out walking in Clyde Road, Dorridge around 9.30am on Wednesday (11 March).

Forensics officer Suzanne Marsden saw him collapse and ran over to his aid. She began mouth to mouth resuscitation without hesitation.

PCs James Holdsworth and Lee Roberts happened to be driving past and saw what was happening and immediately stopped to help. They shouted up over the radio for paramedics while assisting Suzanne with performing CPR on the man.

The radio call was heard by PCs Mark Cooke and Timothy Elliott who leapt into action, grabbing a defibrillator and coming to the aid of the man and the other officers.

As a result of their actions, the man regained some consciousness and was breathing by the time the ambulance service arrived.

Paramedics at the scene said if it wasn’t for the intervention of forensics officer Suzanne Marsden and the PCs, the man would have died.

Sergeant Sarah Rose, from the Stechford Response Team, said: “All officers acted with professionalism and worked together to provide prompt aid, they should be very proud of their actions they have ultimately saved this males life.”
