A kind-hearted volunteer who died after spending more than a decade offering support to key workers has had a tree planted in her memory.
Last year Chief Constable Winton Keenen paid tribute to Dora Reed who sadly passed away following a long battle with illness in May.
The 82-year-old had volunteered as a chaplain in the Force for 13 years offering support to police officers and staff and her fellow volunteers.
During that time she served stations in Ponteland, Cramlington, Morpeth and Wallsend becoming a popular figure.
She epitomised what being a volunteer is all about and this week Chief Constable Keenen planted a tree in her memory outside our communications centre in Ponteland.
It means a piece of our memorial garden will forever be dedicated to Dora who would spend hours making sure she took the time to speak to every person in the building.
Even when she began to suffer from poor health, she still made the effort to come in and speak to officers, staff and her fellow volunteers to offer her support.
She made such a lasting impression that in 2018 she was presented with a Chief Constable’s Commendation for her service to the Force.
The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Force remain with her family and friends and they will be welcome to visit her memorial at any time.
